Hartnell Taylor Cook swapped laptops for litter pickers and headed down to Weston-super-Mare for a charity beach clean in support of Surfers Against Sewage.
In short order, we collected plenty of rubbish and other unpleasantries that have no place on a public beach.
Who are Surfers Against Sewage?
Surfers Against Sewage was set up in 1990 by a group of Cornish surfers and beach lovers in the north coast villages of St Agnes and Porthtowan. What began as a response to polluted coastal waters has grown into one of the UK’s most successful marine conservation and campaigning charities.
Their work now reaches well beyond sewage. The charity also tackles climate change, water quality, coastal development and plastic pollution, and it offers the Safer Seas Service, a water quality monitoring app that helps people make informed choices about where they swim and surf. Just as importantly, they bring communities together to take action themselves, through beach cleans, education and campaigning.
Why we support them
At Hartnell Taylor Cook, we believe our people have a real role to play in the communities where we live and work. Giving back is a core part of our ESG commitments, and we actively encourage our employees to use their skills and time to support voluntary and community organisations, to the level where every one is supported to give one day a year, fully paid, for voluntary work of their choosing.
Sustainability matters to us too. We take our responsibilities to the planet seriously, and that includes our own carbon reduction plan which we’ve recently shared, click HERE committing us to carbon net zero, latest by 2045. A charity that protects our coastline and gives people a practical way to help is a natural fit for a business that cares about both people and place.
It also reflects the culture we want at HTC: a caring, flexible workplace where colleagues can get involved in things that matter to them, whether that’s a charity hike, a fundraiser or an afternoon on the beach.
A cleaner coastline
Beach cleans are simple, but they make a visible difference, and they’re a reminder that small, local actions add up. Our thanks go to everyone who got their hands dirty for a good cause.
